Curiosity Grows Here: Meet Our New Interns

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming three new interns to the Luquire team.  We are so excited for the opportunity to work with and mentor these tremendously talented young professionals. With just a week under their belt, they are already blowing us a way.

So, without further ado, we introduce our Summer 2021 interns:

Camden Dukes

Our Media intern, Camden comes to us from the 4A’s Multicultural Advertising Intern Program. She is a recent grad from The University of Georgia (go Dawgs!), where she majored in advertising with a minor in design and media, and also earned a certificate in new media. She is eager to learn and always goes above and beyond. Her past roles include account executive at Talking Dog Agency, director of PR for Black Affairs Council and designer for her university’s yearbook. Camden has also bowled since she was 3 years old and still bowls a 150 even though she hasn’t practiced much in the last couple of years.

Q&A

Favorite project you did in school?

My favorite project during my collegiate career was during my capstone course from my new media certificate. The group dynamic was awesome. We meshed well together, and everyone carried their weight. Furthermore, we had tasks completed before the deadline many times. Regarding the actual project, we worked with new technology at the time, app clips. We really wanted to work with a client, so we attempted to acquire one. However, the response back was slow, so we created a fictional client, “Zoom Bike Share.” Ultimately, we were able to work with innovative technology and created a fictitious company that the technology could be applied.

What are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I am looking forward to gaining hands-on experience in media. I am excited to be exposed to media planning, buying, execution and other aspects of media. From daily agency interactions, I hope to decipher if I want to start my career in an agency or client side. Additionally, I hope to gain lasting connections, thus broadening my network.

Twitter, Insta or TikTok and why?

Instagram. Out of the four social media apps on my phone, I spend the most time on IG. In a way, it is a hub for other social media apps. Things I have seen on Twitter end up on IG. TikTok videos are shared through Reels. Things from Facebook end up circulating on IG. So, you kind of don’t have to have other social accounts because content from Twitter, TikTok, Facebook and even Snapchat end up on Instagram. Overall, I like Instagram because it acts as a hub for other social apps (so I am not missing out on what is happening on other social apps). On IG I also enjoy the breathtaking photos and video, and the positive affirmations, reinforcements and encouraging graphics and photos of love and wealth.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Okra! I love it boiled, breaded, fried, whole, cut. I have not had pickled okra, but I do want to try it soon.

Narvice Rutherford

Narvice brings excitement and curiosity to the team as she splits her time between the PR and Creative departments. As a rising senior at Johnson C. Smith University, she is very involved in her university, as a member of the Pre-Alumni Council and a Golden Bull Ambassador in the admissions office. She also served as vice president of the Class Council during her sophomore year. With experience as a media relations intern for CIAA and interning at Artifact CLT, Narvice will be a great asset to our team. In her free time, she flexes her creative muscle through drawing and painting, which will come in handy when sketching out designs.

Q&A

Where do you find inspiration?

My mother and my sister are my inspiration. My parents have always made things happen for me. My mother has always been somewhat more hands-on, and she inspires me to push myself. My sister inspires me as well because of how driven and focused she has always been. They both work so hard and have always supported me.

What are you hoping to gain from this experience?

From this experience, I am hoping to gain additional skills and knowledge. I am excited and grateful to have this opportunity. I’m hoping to be able to observe how things are working at an advertising and PR agency. I also look forward to the mentorship.

What books, shows, movies are you into?

My favorite trilogies are Rush Hour 1,2, & 3 and Jurassic Park 1, 2, & 3. I have seen all of them 1,000 times, if not more. I can watch any one of them over and over again. I do not have a favorite show. I watch different genres of TV. For shows, I mostly watch Korean Dramas on Netflix or Viki. I also do not have a favorite book, but my favorite genre to read is science fiction.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I would eat pizza for the rest of my life if I could. I already almost eat pizza every day, but I try to take breaks. I remember the first time I ever tried pizza. I was in the third grade at a new school, and we had pizza for lunch. I have loved it since.

Ethan Hilzinger

Our accounting intern, Ethan Hilzinger is a business student at UNC Charlotte. He is excited to gain hands-on experience here at Luquire. Ethan says he chose accounting because it is black and white; you either have the numbers or you don’t, and opinions don’t determine whether something is right or wrong. When he’s not crunching numbers, he enjoys martial arts and weapons training (hence the swords in question 3).

Q&A

Favorite project you did in school?

It would have to be the semester long marketing project I had in the spring of 2021. We had to design our own product and identify many steps with marketing it such as the orientation of the product, utility, marketing goal and strategy, the pricing strategy and its connection to the product life cycle, etc. It was very hands on and enjoyable.

What are you hoping to gain from this experience?

I’m looking to gain hands on experience in the accounting field, and a general overview of some of the processes that occur in day-to-day operations. Hopefully by the end of the internship I’ll have a better idea of what to expect when I graduate and be able to apply what I’ve learned to make myself better as a student and an accountant.

What is just off-screen that we can’t see during a call?

There are a couple things out of my camera’s view. I have my drum set off to the side of me constantly taunting me as I work. I also have numerous swords on and against the wall that I occasionally take down to give a swing or two.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be a large salad with chopped grilled chicken. If I’m stuck eating only one thing, might as well be pragmatic and keep myself healthy. Otherwise, I probably wouldn’t live very long with such a limited diet!
